Wordplay fun, but overblown, so story kinda slow and not very engaging.
I ... cannot figure out what is happening here. My guess is the author was a huge Hitchhikers' Guide to the Galaxy fan and tried to capture the magic. Nope. Extra star for trying?
Well damn, y'all. Hilarious, depressing, uplifting, whimsical, deeply absurd and smart. It is altogether TOO MUCH and I loved it.
I have been really enjoying how many sci-fi books I've read lately that include aliens who feel truly alien and different. Hooboy is this book filled with aliens. It's an explosion of imaginary cultures and places and histories and people - and yes, tangents and in-jokes and weird bits and bobs and snark about sentience. It's a lot to take in. It's not for everyone. This brand of humor really works for me. The sheer over-the-top neon brightness of it all absorbed me. The beating emotional heart at the core of it moved me.
Life is beautiful and life is stupid. <3
(Don't skip the liner notes/acknowledgements at the end)

I loved this. I understand why some wouldn't, but I absolutely loved it. It called out humans for being total shits, but still showed why humans are also good and fallible.
And it is so very silly. Silly makes me happy. I'm so excited to see this movie.

It's just too manic pixie dream punk for me; all vibes and then more vibes. I doubt I will ever be in the right mood to enjoy it
Very Douglas Adams. Funny. Fun. Little dialogue. Lot of hilarious description. Hard book to put down cuz it's just a good time.
This is trying to be Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, but it's missing the dialog. It is (or the first half) mostly just descriptions...I thought it was setting up background, but then it just continues with more descriptions. Show don't tell.
it is unfair that someone can be this good at words
Its like my two favorite books (The Ground Beneath Her Feet and Hitchiker's Guide to Galaxy) had a love child. The result? A new favorite.
Still not sure whether I ended up enjoying or hating this book.
