This book was super cute but the use of indigenous people and their cultural garments as a caricature for a coming-out party is really weird and distasteful.
This is such a lovely and wholesome read, I really enjoyed it. Absolutely perfect for the current climate of queer positive books.
At 65, Albert has spent most of his life repressed and unhappy but finally he realises that there are good, kind people in the world, people he can call friends. He steps out of the closet and into life, and it’s fabulous.
I really enjoyed this, and the fact that it’s mainly about friendship and acceptance makes it so heartwarming and gentle. Obviously there is a love interest, the flashbacks to his teens are eye opening and it’s so sad to see how Albert was repressed by his family.
A definite recommend.

Albert Entwistle ist seit Jahr und Tag Postbote in seinem Heimatort. Er wirkt manchmal wie ein Grantler, ist aber eigentlich nur schüchtern und verschlossen. Als er in Rente gehen soll und auch noch seine Katze stirbt sieht er sich mit einer solchen Einsamkeit konfrontiert, das er beschliest sein Leben zu ändern und seine Jugendliebe George zu suchen.
Der Roman ist ein wirklicher Feel-Good-Roman. Sehr leicht geschreiben fließt die Handlung so dahin und man fühlt sich gut aufgehoben. Allerdings könnte es teilweise etwas schneller fließen kmeiner Meinung nach, deshalb der eine Punkt Abzug.
Vor allem Albert ist wirklich sehr gut ausgearbeitet. Man kann seine Entwicklung sehr gut mitverfolgen und fiebert ihm in seiner Reise entgegen. Die Freunde, die ihm auf dem Weg begegnen und helfen kann man sich nur so wünschen. Manchmal erinnert mich die SToryline deshalb auch etwas an der Zauberer von Oz.
Ich kann das Buch wirklich für lauschige Herbst- oder Winterstunden empfehlen, wenn man es sich mit einem Tee gemütlich machen möchte und etwas Selbstliebe in seinem Leben braucht.
