very sweet story :)
there are some parts that are a bit corny but for a book like this it's all about positive vibes so it works
immersion read from chapter 7 onwards which helped elevate the book from 3.75 to a 4

5. A cozy, heartwarming read. You’ll be cheering for Albert right from the start. Cain manages to tackle so many heavy topics and themes in a layered and surprisingly lighthearted way. Can’t wait to read more from him. And visit Albert again someday.
This story had so much potential but it was so dull, I guess a lot like Albert. How did he, after 50 years, all of a sudden have an epiphany? He changed so drastically it wasn’t believable.
When George and Albert finally met again it was pretty uneventful, something that should’ve been so heartwarming. 1 star

Sometimes stilted dialogue, unrealistic plot development, and not as funny as I'd hoped.
I want to love this book but it was a bit too neat and tidy for me. People are growing without months or years of therapy, maybe even through a few conversations!
It's good and it's cute, but it also easily could have been 100-150 pages shorter and told the same story. The story starts off VERY slow, and I thought about throwing in the towel more than once. Thankfully, things start picking up around 100 pages in. I ended up really enjoying the story of Albert and his quest of tracking down his teenage lover.
HAPPIEST TEARS! I just finished listening to The Secret Life of Albert Entwhistle by @mattcainwriter and read so engagingly by Simon Vance. Oh how I loved this book! It was full of such hope and love. Absolutely magnificent! Thank you to @supposedlyfun and @mymackandcheese for bringing it into my life.

Good and wholesome, if your looking for a light hearted read. But not an overly interesting read. Wish every character in this book good things. I loved the afterward with conversations with eldery gay men who grew up of that time.
Aw, this was a lovely book. When it began I was thinking it might be a bit like A Man called I’ve, but it was not. Albert was not a curmudgeon, just repressed.
[3.75] there’s nothing quite as deeply gratifying and touching as an older protagonist finding their happiness
