There’s a great sense of achievement in finishing a book this size. It may have taken months but I’ve done it. I really loved Ferguson (all versions of him) as a character, if you didn’t I don’t think you could get through this one. I also enjoyed the very long, sweeping sentences and Auster’s style and humour. But I did think it was too long, long for the sake of being long in parts and I skimmed some of it when the story became bogged down.

Too slow, and after only a few chapters I lost myself in the book
The premise of the novel is interesting, but the writing style got to be really annoying. The sentences were way too long. (For example, there was a two-sentence paragraph that was a page long.) The ending was also disappointing.
This book was a bit of a marathon of reading and I took it at a turtle's pace. The structure with each Ferguson getting a part of the chapters lent itself to me dipping in and out. I'd get wrapped up with one of them then move to the next one and be able to go read something else for a bit. That being said it's such a smart thoughtful book with a good bit of interesting history.

I won the audio version through a giveaway... thanks GR!
I'm not a big audio book person; I've always preferred the visual experience of reading. But I was looking forward to "reading" a book and being mobile in the process.
The book is read very beautifully by the author himself. And the story is intriguing, mostly. But I think the audio format was the negative part for me. The concept of 4 alternate stories was hard to keep track of by just listening. At times, I wasn't really sure which version I was listening to, and it wasn't easy from the labeling of the audio tracks to see where I was.
Perhaps in a book form I'd have gotten the concept better.

Not finished. I just didn't connect to this book at all. 200 pages in and I'm still struggling with it.
