This book was a real quick read. I enjoyed it but something was missing for me. For me this book needed more romance, more swoon, it just needed more for me. I mean you can’t find your soulmate just by touching skin…..

This book is about a human girl that stumbled upon a girl who was hurt. Kai decided to help the girl and the girl took her to a camp of dragons. The girl wanted to warn her brother about an enemy group of dragons; because that enemy group of dragons were near. When Rhys, the brother of the girl got hurt; Kai decided to help Rhys. She saved him but the group of dragons took her away to a cave. They promised to take her home but things changed through out the book. Unexpected things…..

I think this book was good but you must read the other books in the series for this book to feel finished. This book ended at a huge cliffhanger that left me wanting more, I want to know if there will be any romance in the other books that will make a person swoon, because I really hope so!!

This story is worth five mega-golden stars! I absolutely loved, loved, loved, loved it!!! I cannot even wrap my mind around the uniqueness of it. I was enthralled, to say the least. This story was magical, fantastical, splendid, and amazing. The tension, the epic conflict, the romances...whew! All I can say is that I am well and truly hooked. I definitely want more.

I have to admit, this took me a good minute to get into. Honestly, I think that's more of my mood reader mindset than anything else. I LOVE that there was a Rocky Mountain, Colorado setting. I found the world-building and just general ambiance of the story easy to get into and stay invested in the story. I didn't feel like anything was overbearing, but I still felt pain for the characters. Rhys' is an absolute dream, and I loved reading his point of view everytime.

If you're hung over from Fourth Wing, this is 100000000% the series to dive into!

Huge dragon fan. This book was just what I needed for a quick and fun read. I'll definitely be reading the sequel!

Content: This book isn't YA, it's adult. There are some minor swears and some violence, but otherwise pretty clean.

Read this Fantasy Romance if you like;
• Fated Mates
• Found Family
• Magic and Dragons!

The plot is intriguing with great writing style which makes it easier to envision some action scenes. It also comes with fascinating magic system and loveable characters.

The story is told in multiple POVs and it wasn’t confusing to follow since each characters has their own unique personality so it was easy to differentiate them.

Kai (FMC) feels relatable, while some of her decisions feel annoying but I think I’ll probably do the same if I ever were in her position.
Rhys (MMC) seems a bit distant at first but I like how he gave Kai some space and didn’t force her to do anything. I would like to see more of them together in the next book!
Secondary characters are also well developed, I really like Juli and Ashem!

I really like the found family aspect that Kai founds within Rhys’s dragon circle (vee), they welcome her and also introduce her to the world of dragon.
I hope the next book will explore more about dragons, the war and where they live.

Overall, this is a great introduction for a new fantasy romance series. It has the potential to be a great series with all the great elements inside.
I can’t wait to get my hands on the second book because the ending is quite heart-breaking and I need to know what happens next!

Thank you to Book of Matches Media and author for giving me a copy of the book and for having me on this book tour. I’m leaving this review voluntarily!

"The wind blows where it will. We can only control our wings."

Kai is a rock-climber who is hiking with her best-friend Juliet when they find a girl at the base of a cliff with a broken leg. While Juliet goes for help, Kai waits with the girl. But her leg is already starting to heal, Kai follows her into a clearing with a bunch more people, little does she know they're dragons. Thrust into an old war and dragon magic Kai must decide what she will give up to help save these dragons and ultimately all of human kind.

I really liked this book! It had everything I love! I mean an epic fantasy with action, romance and hidden magic with dynamic characters in a found family who are dragons!! What's not to love!!
The characters really pulled through on this story! I thought the author wrote them and their relationships and dialogue so well. The side characters added so so much to the story, Rhys, AShem, Juli and Cadoc (who reminded me soo much of Caldon from The Prison Healer Trilogy!!!) were some of my favs!

The plot was good, it got a little slow because most of the middle of the book is dedicated to exploring heartswearing, which is the dragon form of fated mates, like a bond. I also would love to have explored more lore about the dragons and the different kinds, because it sounds so amazing! Although I feel like this stuff and the war will definitely become more of the focus in the next book. Some of the major plot points were a little predictable, but for me I wasn't too annoyed because I like having my theories be right, cause they usually are not. I also have to say something about that ending. Because OMG the author just UGHH. like omg.. I literally had to put the book down because so much happened!! I literally am going to pick up the next book asap because it was so good!!

Anyway, I highly recommend this book if you love a good epic fantasy with a large romance aspect that is based around bonds between a human and a dragon. Plus, if you love the high stakes and will-they-won't-they trope combines with a diverse and dynamic set of side characters.

I really enjoyed this book and found it hard to stop reading at times. The story was compelling and I kept wanting to find out what was going to happen next or when something would finally happen. It was so easy to picture all that was going on and the characters were all well developed. I especially loved Cadoc. Though, Kai really did grate sometimes considering the huge deal she was making over kissing a guy, especially when she finds out what happens if she doesn't. I can't even tell you how many times I thought "just kiss him already!"...

Kai and a couple of her roommates are on a vacation of sorts and decide to go on a hike one day. Kai is a pretty avid rock climber and she wants to go just a little higher, so she convinces the other two to go for just a bit more. Along the way they find a girl on the ground who looks like she fell and appears close to dying. So Kai's two friends go back down the mountain for help while she remains with the girl. What she doesn't expect is for the girl to wake up and literally drag herself along in an attempt to get to her brother. Not being able to watch, Kai decides to help her and has no idea the trouble that that one decision will bring her.

When Kai helps his sister back to camp, Rhys pretty much pays her no mind. But when the enemy attacks, she ends up saving his life and is pretty much kidnapped by the group. Rhys is healing so he has very little contact with her until one day, he accidentally touches her skin to skin. Something he was desperately trying to avoid doing because if a dragon touches their heartmate, they become forever bound together. And when we learn who he really is, it becomes doubly worse because she's human. Kai resists it with all her being while Rhys deals with the pain an incomplete bond causes him because he doesn't want to force her. But when she seeks solace in another she has grown close to, Rhys' jealousy flares and he attacks. Leading to his friend getting captured and horrible things happening.

Kai feels something for Rhys, but she is also terrified of him at times. He is a dragon after all, but aside from that she doesn't want to give up her freedom by being bound to him the way she would be. She wants to escape, but what can she do by herself? That changes when her friend, Juli ends up being brought to the cave as well. Juli had been searching for her and managed to find the camp where it all began. Their escape is ill fated, but it leads to Juli ending up being heartsworn to the moody Ashem (which wasn't a surprise at all...as much as I disliked the idea, I knew at least one of Kai's other friends would end up heartsworn too). For someone who sees the world in black and white, she takes to it well after the initial shock and denial, and her and Ashem's relationship seems to change over night. Kai though, is still not too excited about her own heartswearing but she sees no other way. But just before she can kiss him, everything goes downhill and fast.

The battle is brutal with losses on both sides. In order to save him, Kai completes the bond and Rhys' power grows even more. But to save his life, Rhys ends up doing something that Kai feels betrayed her and their relationship that just started to move forward, took many steps back. For many reasons, Rhys wants to keep his heartswearing to a human secret so he sends Kai back home Juli. I kind of didn't like how it all ended, but it did make me really look forward to the next book.
