you absolutely 100% have to read THE KIND WORTH KILLING before you read this one, even though this one is categorized as a âsemi-sequelâ ⌠there are so many spoilers and answers from the first novel in this one, so Iâm grateful for those đ
while this book focuses mostly around kimball (the police detective turned private detective), it was truly lilyâs POV and thought process that really sold it for me! I wasnât as invested in the side characters this time around, but the way they connected with kimballâs past was đ¤đź I was SCREAMING!!!
in hindsight, I definitely should have figured out all of the plot twists, but I was simply along for the ride
I donât think this lived up to the hype that I felt after TKWK, but it was a great extended epilogue! the unfolding of the sub-plot between kimball and lily was a little slow and out of left field, compared to their thoughts and actions from the first book, but adding in a whole new plot was a wise choice!!
this is definitely a must read for anyone who absolutely adored TKWK, like me! itâs worth the wait!

Do not skip this one if you're a fan of domestic/marriage noir etched with twists and turns.
A big thank you to NetGalley & Faber and Faber for giving me an ARC. This honest review is left voluntarily.

SYNOPSIS:
- The Kind Worth Saving (TKWS) is Book 2 in series. The first book is called The Kind Worth Killing (TKWK).
- The plot is extremely similar to TKWK, as it centers around people coming together to plot âthe perfectâ murders.
- I typically love Peter Swansonâs work. Whenever I see he has stuff coming out, Iâm excited to read it!
- ***If you havenât read TKWK, you should read it first, as TKWS has major spoilers for TKWK.**
- I had read TKWK when it came out several years ago, and I reread it before reading TKWS. I really enjoyed TKWK. I wish TKWS wasnât written as a sequel to TKWK, as it retroactively ruins the ending of TKWS.
- To me, it seems TKWK was Swansonâs most successful book, and TKWS feels like an easy attempt to cash in on that success. The books are structured the same way, the mystery/killings are same motif, the multiple POVs are same, and the book is even divided in same ways (i.e., parts). Very dejavĂş, but in a purposeful way. Itâs like the formula worked, and so, this one was done in mirror image of the first. Needless to say, it isnât original.
- TKWK came out in 2015, so itâs another reason this âsequelâ feels off to me. For one, TKWK wasnât written as a series book. It had an ending that worked. Second, TKWS came out 8 years after TKWK? That seems weird to wait that long to do a sequel.
- As for TKWS, I really didnât like seeing Lily and Kimball in this sequel. Their friendship is.. odd? Since it has been years since TKWK came out, TKWS gives the impression Swanson forgot how he wrote Lily and Kimball in the prior book, especially Lily.
