one of those pieces of media where you’re eternally screaming “get out of there” to the narrator but she just. won’t. and thus her story begins. an incredibly raw and honest look at complex trauma and the things that cause/exacerbate/help/heal it. i found it more difficult to get through than most this length, but i think that mostly had to do with the subject matter and finding it hard to sit down and read about abuse for more than thirty minutes straight. highly recommend to anyone in a space where they are able to digest this type of content.

This book made me so emotional at times, it was uncomfortable. It brought up emotions that are unpleasant to feel. But all in all, it made me extremely hopeful for people who’ve been through trauma. There is another side.

Disclaimer: I don’t rate memoirs.

This was an incredible memoir with a look at someone who has complex PTSD. If you’re thinking about reading this, please check trigger warnings

I loved the authors writing and style. This was so visceral and made me feel so many emotions from sadness to anger to joy and heartbreak. I highly recommend.

This book was so well written. I feel like it’s hard to find people who are curious about themselves and the world in the same way as Foo, and I really appreciated her authorial voice and the content which she wrote about.

It is a very good memoir. In the end I‘ve got a little emotional. It is not fully 5 stars because sometimes I‘ve got personally confused about the chronological timeline of her healing process.

Not sure what to add as a trigger warning because there a so many. I loved the short chapters and the way she pulls the audio recordings in at the end.

I think this is a great alternative to some popular books on how PTSD can affect our bodies. It feels incredibly personal, but I'm thankful for the author letting us into their life through such an intimate retelling. I related to a lot as someone with chronic illness and trauma, but specifically this really helped me understand those I love who have C-PTSD.

Definitely make sure you read content warnings before reading! While I know this is realistic because it is a retelling of the author's experiences, it can be a bit shocking to listen-especially if you resonate with some of the experiences.
