“The words broke something open inside of me. But it was a good sort of breaking. It was like the hatching of an egg, giving away to something beautiful. Something new.”

4.5 Stars

“Little crow queen”

“Forget Mother. I’m proud of us.”

“Let’s show them all what we can do.”

From start to finish, I adore these two books. The world building and magical realism is so breathtaking. I love the enemies to lovers vibes and then development of the platonic and love relationships through out these books. I love the world of storm crow encyclopedia in the back I wish it were in the front instead!

Thia “little crow queen” develops like no other character and it’s so realistic and pulls the reader in to feel like they hare not alone.
Ericen’s character development is matching Thia’s however they match to grow together, their kingdoms, and love.
Caylus wants to be a scientist and he is amazing.
Kiva and thia I feel like grew together through out these two books and not just with their love interests but overall as main characters. Thank you for this free copy to review!!!

I've finally finished reading this duology! It took me a while because there were so many amazing books I wanted to read first, but here we are!

Summery
Princess Thia, her allies, and her crow, Res, are planning a rebellion to defeat Queen Razel and Illucia once and for all. Thia must convince the neighboring kingdoms to come to her aid, and Res’s show of strength is the only thing that can help her.

But so many obstacles stand in her way. Res excels at his training, until he loses control of his magic, harming Thia in the process. She is also pursued by Prince Ericen, heir to the Illucian throne and the one person she can’t trust but can’t seem to stay away from.

As the rebel group prepares for war, Res’s magic grows more unstable. Thia has to decide if she can rely on herself and their bond enough to lead the rebellion and become the crow rider she was meant to be.

My thoughts
The sequel of The Storm Crow is an action packed final to this duology. In the beginning, I found the story to be rushed, which makes me feel like it could also have been written as a trilogy. Many of the battle scenes were rushed and felt incomplete.

Besides the rushed battles, I loved every aspect of this book. I love how it tackles the struggles around depression, and its tricky nature. There are moments of bonding, friendship, forgiveness, doubt and self-discovery.

The romance in this book was weird. In book 1 we got a lot of Caylus and Thia, but in book 2 it was just gone within a few moments. Which is fine, because I liked Ericen better (he gave me Red Queen vibes).

Besides the fast pace and the weird romance, I loved the characters and how they developed. It also has easy LGBT+ representation, which is good! There are hints of politics and strategic talk though out the book. Overall a good read and an amazing series

There is a strength to you that lifts others up, and that’s what this world needs right now. Not another politician. You.

this was definitely a step up from book 1! the pacing was faster, there was more action, and we got to finally really enjoy some explored tension and chemistry between thia and ericen 🤌🏼 .25 just for their bits of banter hehe. and shout out to the aro-ace rep that comes up, very cool.

it was a fast read for me, with even more interesting worldbuilding on the crow magic system (without overwhelming). res is so cute omg I WANT MY OWN CROW! the crow guide is great, it would be so cool to see it in a graphic or illustrated version!

it's just such a creative, unique world, i would've totally been obsessed when i was younger, a solid YA fantasy duology 🐦‍⬛

Overall, I loved this book! It has a fitting ending and is packed full of what I personally wanted and expected from Thia's story. I do wish there was a little more in the epilogue, but perhaps there will be a third book out soon?
4 stars because the cliches were just a liiiittle too cliche, but otherwise excellent!

I ADORED this series. Kalyn Josephson has the balance of the series perfected.

You never feel like you are waiting too long for something to happen in this series. You are left to fall in love with the sassy characters and come to trust those who are seemingly villains. I mean who doesn't love the enemies to lovers trope?

I borrowed this from a friend who received the ARC in exchange for an honest review. I will be buying my own copies shortly!

Better than the first one imo

Better than the first, the author quickly gave up on the love triangle (making it even more useless in the first book because of how little pages the second love interest is in both books they should have stay friend the hole time) but the plot is nice and the romance once it actually gets going is cute. It's a good and entertaining read
