A quick, fun read. This story is told from two sides. The first POV is Amber Patterson, who is the home wrecker. She has decided that she wants to be the next Mrs. Parrish. She does some pretty terrible things to get to her goal. The second POV is Mrs. Daphne Parrish, who tells the story of how she became Mrs. Parrish. She also describes her so-called perfect life and marriage. I don’t know that this is a thriller as you know what is happening along the way. However, there are a couple of nice twists, and I really did enjoy the ending.

WOW, what a ride! This book had fantastic twists and turns, even when some parts felt predictable , then the rug would be pulled and BAM! New twist, new turn!

Liv Constantine is freakishly good at writing terrible characters, and I absolutely loathed Amber and Jackson. I’m glad the second half of the story was told from Daphne’s perspective, because Amber is infuriating!
Amber literally lied about her ex boyfriend r****g her, sent him to prison and he got attached so badly that he was left permanently disabled. AND SHE FEELS NO REMORSE!!!

So, I’m grateful Daphne Parish
Did not trust Amber, found out who Amber REALLY was, and set her up to take her husband after all. I mean Amber was trying to ruin a marriage from the very beginning, because she wanted to be rich so badly, but didn’t ever think about what kind of person Jackson actually was. So kudos to Daphne for essentially continuing Amber’s shady plan, because Daphne was able to finally escape her marriage. I hope Jackson ROTS and gets EVERYTHING TAKEN FROM HIM!

Also, I will say that as much of a monster Amber is, nobody deserves the treatment of
Jackson’s sociopathic behavior. That man is pure evil. Example: Sticking a gun to their heads for sex, with one bullet in the chamber if they said no was batshit sadistic. Or when he forced them to log their food and he would look it over because he didn’t want “a fat wife” was horrendous. He also stuck Daphne in a psych hospital for a month because she was trying to escape their marriage with their firstborn. Oh! And then Jackson decided Urinating on Daphne’s cupcakes that she made for the kids’ PTA was the only way to regulate his emotions, because  Daphne told him no that moment. He’s unhinged and INSANE.
So no, Nobody deserves a person like that in their lives, and it was infuriating that he was able to get away with so much for so long.

Ultimately I think this is a very intense “be careful what you wish for” lesson for women like Amber, and a HUGE red flag warning for people like Daphne. However I think this book leaves a lot of room for discussion around marital laws, and makes the reader think: how one can protect themselves from an abusive spouse/partner?

I cannot wait to read the second book, and I hope the karma keeps giving for Amber and Jackson.

Was it a bit problematic to suggest that some women deserve abusive men who might shoot them on any given night? Sure. But this is the kind of book that's just here to show you a good time in my opinion, so I don't think it should be taken too seriously. I thought it was really funny at times and, while I don't usually enjoy overly convenient endings - it just worked for this one.
