This book was way less engaging than I remembered it from my last read of it in college. I think the writing style is just a little too dry for my attention span these days. Even so, I do appreciate reading Forster through the lens of a queer analysis, and I also think he does a good job depicting the English condition of constant “muddling.”

If you’re a Jane Austen fan like me, this is a must-read.

I don't really have strong views either way towards Foster's A Room with a View. In some ways, I found the whole premise of the novel rather predictable; A young girl from Middle Class England travels to Italy as part of her cultural education. But her trip to Italy is less a cultural education, than it is a journey of self-discovery, self-knowledge and learning to follow one's heart rather than the dictates of society. Still, a breezy, readable take on a familiar storyline.

I loved the many funny and meta moments - the humor and class preoccupation felt very Jane Austen-esque, though I didn't find the romance nearly as compelling.

I enjoyed this book, but I think I would have liked it even more if I’d read rather than listened to it. You never know whether a certain audiobook narrator will make or break how you experience a story, and I think the narrator of this one in particular hindered my experience, so I’m almost rating this as I think I would have rated a physical book reading experience, if that makes sense? Good story, interesting characters, enjoyable settings, and when I next find a used copy of this I’ll pick it up to try rereading another time.
