I think a lot of people would benefit from reading this, even if they themselves are not the children of emotionally immature parents. it isn't an easy read for sure, it made me cry many times and brought up some painful memories. equally, it felt freeing to be so validated, to be finally able to describe my experiences and to get some tangible coping mechanisms for the future.

Really helpful for people looking to understand their emotionally immature and/or malignant narcissist parents or guardians. Doesn’t hold enough nuance for people of the global majority. Most of the emphasis on the book is how to maintain a relationship with these parents, and didn’t spend enough time on adult children who have already done these steps and are needing to move to low/no contact. Attachment theory would be a helpful addition

Good information for adults struggling with boundaries with their parents, but I  read it for the final chapter on how to identify emotionally mature people while dating. That chapter was mainly common sense (they ask questions about you, they don’t have a temper, they are steady and consistent emotionally, etc.).

Great book! Provided a lot of language to help articulate my experience. Had a lot realizations. Would recommend and would read again!

This book is a great starting point for learning to recognize emotionally immature behaviors in your parents (and yourself!), but it is very much a starting point. If you have been on this journey for any length of time quite a bit of it becomes redundant.
The beginning felt like it was leaning "blame all your issues on your parents, don't worry about taking accountability for anything" but later chapters did start to dive into ways to make changes in order to be more emotionally mature / attract emotionally mature people into your life which was good.
It relies heavily on anecdotes, which sometimes can be interesting, but often they were very surface level and repetitive.
Again, this book was very much for the start of the journey. If that's where I was then I do think this book would have been more eye-opening for me. As it was, I still did learn and it was able to inspire some soul searching on my part. Especially the later chapters.

This was a great read. If anyone has any sort of conflict with a loved one, this book can be a great guide to setting boundaries and reacting to emotionally immature people. I really liked it. Would’ve given it five stars, but it is a little slow. That said, it was still incredibly informative and enlightening for me!
