When I went into this book I kind of had high expectations since I loved It Ends With Us and Verity but this one just didn't really do it for me. I did like the story but I honestly felt like Tate deserved someone better. Like I liked Miles and I did find his character attractive with the basic brothers best friend trope but I felt like Tate didn't deserve all the switching up and misleadingness from Miles. I really give this 3.5 but overall it is a fast decent read.

Colleen Hoover does it again. I will be reading every damn book this woman ever writes. She is a genius.
I didn't expect to like this as much as Maybe Someday or Slammed, which I read first. I wasn't sure about the plot-line before reading it, but I was so impressed with the other two Colleen Hoover books that I decided to read it. It was AT LEAST as good as those.
I can count this book (along with Slammed) as one of the only three books that I can ever remember making me cry. Not just tearing up. Big, fat tears rolling down my face.
This is one of the most heart-breaking books that I've ever read.
And I think, that of all the characters I have ever read, Miles is in the most pain.
The emotional depth and pain portrayed in this book was gut-wrenching.
The chapters alternate between Tate's point of view in the present and Miles' point of view of events that happened 6 years before. We see at first how completely different he seems, and then the events leading up to what happened to change him so drastically.
And even though the book is so heart-wrenching, there is a stunningly beautiful happy ending. The characters learn to come to terms with their grief and slowly heal towards living again.
Another 5 star rating from me. And I am not usually a contemporary reader, so it is very rare for me to give 5 stars to a contemporary book. So far, Colleen gets 5 stars from me for all 3 of her books that I have read. And I've only ever given 6 contemporary books a 5-star rating, including those.

Miles ... Miles. THIS MEN. PLEASE. Shit, i love him.
So cute.

Hoover is an enjoyable storyteller. Her pacing keeps the reader attentive. Her tone and dialogue keep us interested. It is easy to see why her books are popular.
My challenge with her stories is that she continues to perpetuate patriarchal concepts and places women in subjugated roles, even when attempting to portray a strong, female protagonist that makes the ‘right’ decision (It Ends With Us).
Ugly Love is yet another story where the bulk of the novel has the female lead pursuing the desirable man. He is clearly troubled, and he has emphatically stated that he does not want a long-term relationship, but cue the female chasing the guy.
Why should it be important for authors in the most popular literary genre – let’s just say it – be feminist? We are half the population. Yet we still earn 3/4 of what men earn. We are a minuscule minority of corporate presidents, CEOs, CFOs, and leaders of industry. We are the minority in government which leads to not having our full voice in policy-making that affects our daily lives. So when readers of all walks of life pick up a novel that continues to dictate that men are more important and women should help men overcome their problems regardless of their own needs, it’s a problem. We reap what we sow.
Is my thought process exaggerated or misguided? I don’t think so. Our country was at risk for four years because we chose to elect a male, under qualified, mentally unstable, megalomaniac that utilized his seat of office for personal aggrandizement, rather than elect a female, who was one of the most qualified (attorney, senator, secretary of state, eight years in the White House) candidates for office in our history. Political? Nah, just logical and rational.
I have been married for 40 years and raised two sons and a daughter. I want them to be voracious readers. But I want novels to promote the ideal that we are equal. We are all important, and no one person should disregard their own emotional health for another’s.
Romance authors need to do better.
