As someone who likes details and data, this was a great read. It also made me feel better about my 10ish oz of strong coffee per day and my likely somewhat higher than recommended weight gain. Recommend to pregnant or soon-to-be pregnant ladies (and their partners).

One thing that has really surprised me since being pregnant is the lack of data and conflicting advice I've been given. As a scientist, every time I've been told something I should/shouldn't do, my natural response is "why?" and to be honest, most of the responses have been underwhelming.

"Walking is a great form of exercise when pregnant" - great, but what if I'm already running 5km twice a week?
"You shouldn't eat prepackaged food" - has the risk really shifted vs when I wasn't pregnant?

This book didn't set out to give advice. Instead, it provided a summary of the available data, meaning that I could read the information and decide what was best for me based on personal circumstances. This suits me much better, and has given me a bit more confidence in the decisions I'm making, and why.

Only downside was the references to an American healthcare system that was less relevant for me personally.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone thinking of having children. The author compiles, analyzes, and breaks down a ton of research regarding various pregnancy health concerns. Not only does she reference an abundance of medical studies, but she also evaluates those studies to shed light on their credibility.

She adds her own anecdotal evidence from her pregnancies, so you're not fully bogged down with just science talk. But she does a great job of relaying information while not advocating for a particular choice. She lays down all of the relevant data while also reiterating multiple times...do what's best for you!
