Things I liked:
  • This is a very data centric book on pregnancy and labor. It is helpful to see things compiled the way that Oster has done here.
  • Good overall insights. While I don't agree with alcohol during pregnancy, even in limited amounts, she touches on other things that are way overblown like the risk of listeria. I have seen more recalls for listeria during my pregnancy for processed food than things like lunch meat.

Things I disliked:
  • Some topics were very brief, and it left me wanting more information. I would have specifically loved more details in the section of the book on labor.

Helpful, I like a data-driven approach
Some things I don’t agree with the author on and opinion definitely factored in to some sections

I love the data and information, I felt like a lot of it was incomplete however. She talks about the average C-section in the US being 30%, the world health organization recommends it only be 15% or less however. This is never mentioning the book. Also she talks about obesity and women, but never talks about being overweight yet fit--working out regularly and eating healthy--versus being a healthy weight, but not having a good diet exercise, and the impacts there of. I'd love to see a follow up, more expended version that addresses these.

Data based pregnancy book, really enjoyed her style of writing and the research.
