I can't believe I had this for 5 years and only read it now. Ooops. I almost gave it away last year... Thank god I'm stubborn and decided to read it first since I'd spent money on it. Because this was actually a lot of fun to read.
It's basically about Charlotte Holmes and Jamie Watson, two teenage descendants of the famous Sherlock Holmes and John Watson, who somehow end up at the same US boarding school when people start being murdered.
If you expect some kind of deep story, believable actions or lots of crime solving and plot twists... this is not it. Tbh, I was not interested in the mystery plot at all here. It's really an interpretation of Holmes and Watson as modern teenagers that made this interesting for me. And I enjoyed how they, their relationship and other known characters from Arthur Conan Doyle's stories are interpreted here. But what I loved the most was the banter and the humour in general. The book is told from Jamie's perspective, and it had me laugh out loud in the middle of the night several times. Really great one liners.
Guess, I will read the other books in the series as well now that I know what to expect from them.

I would've liked less of the "romantic elements" in this book. And why the heck is Jamie so in love with Charlotte from the start?

If you are a fan of mysteries that involve slow burn romances this is the book for you. The relationship between the two protagonists is a huge selling point for me, and it's not a girl chase boy story it's the other way around. A nice change for an otherwise overused trope in the romance genre. Besides the romance of it the mystery itself is a fun call back to a classic Sherlock Holmes story all wrapped up in a modern twist. Fans of the BBC Sherlock or Elementary will get a kick out of reading this first-time adventure between Charlotte Holmes and her new partner Jamie Watson.
