“A Study in Charlotte” is a fast-paced mystery following Charlotte Holmes and James Watson, descendants of the famous detective duo, as they go to boarding school. However, a student’s body is found with all clues pointing to Holmes and Watson as the main suspects. What follows is a race for these amateur detectives to find the real killer, all while battling the history of their family relations.

This book was positively thrilling and so fun to read. The plot twists and murderous reveals were convincing and brilliantly written. The romance subplot also worked out very well.

at first i thought jamie was a girl (jamie should have been a girl!!!) and that further made me want to dedicate my entire summer to this series however it turned out that jamie is a boy and i am still a sucker for sherlock and watson stories no matter the presumption. charlotte was as disagreeable and charmless as her predecessor but still a marvel in her own right. her growth in the book is a little awe inspiring, the writer ought to pat themselves on the back! jamie, like dr. watson represented the audience and thru his eyes, i felt sadness, love and anger. i truly think i will read another book in this series.

I didn't realize that this was an AU because I never quite read the synopsis but it's set in a world where Holmes and Watson were real and Arthur Conan Doyle was the literary agent who published Watson's stories. This leads to every generation of Watsons and Holmes to be pushed together and be friendly, and the Moriartys are always kicking around looking for trouble. Thid book is what BBC Sherlock wanted to be. There are a couple of brief mentions of sexual assault but nothing too detailed.
