The great great great granddaughter of Sherlock Holmes and the great great great grandson of Dr Watson are kept from each other their entire lives. Til they meet finally at a boarding school in Connecticut. Of course you cannot have a Holmes and Watson story without murder mystery intrigue. The pace is fast and it has just the right amount of mystery with a few dark points I did not expect. Twists and turns in this whodunnit.

so intense and the dynamic between jamie and charlotte got me hooked from the very beginning. extremely slow burn but i adore the angst between them. the mystery (and book itself) was quite a lot darker than expected, and i found it super interesting

This is one of the first mystery books I have ever read. I think this genre just is not for me. I cared more about the characters themselves rather than the plot. I think for someone who enjoys mystery this would be a good read. There were some parts that were really funny and I enjoyed the banter between Calder and Charlotte. However, I did find Calder to be a very bland character. I wanted to know more about him in the way we knew so much about Charolette. My favorite part was the ending, but in the beginning I had a hard time staying interested. I think this book just wasn't for me!

This was over all a really fun read. It was fast paced and and funny. Despite being a YA book the stakes felt sufficiently high, although the characters didn’t much talk or act like 16 year olds….which I didn’t really mind since I’m well out of that demographic anyway, but it was noticeable. The character development kinda went back and forth and left me feeling like neither of the main characters gained a lot of personal growth, but this is part of a series so perhaps I’m being too hard on it there. There was a dash of romance. It didn’t pull focus from the rest of the plot nor did it feel like insta-love. The mystery wasn’t the strongest part in my opinion. It just kinda felt like an average episode of Psych. But it was fun and I will probably read the next book and other things by this author.

I would've liked less of the "romantic elements" in this book. And why the heck is Jamie so in love with Charlotte from the start?
