drey’s thoughts:
Laura Griffin’s Snapped is fast and tightly-paced, and will have you at the edge of your seat. I couldn’t put it down–from the first shot to the very last page, because I just had to find out who the bad guys are and what the deal was.

I really liked Sophie–she doesn’t make excuses for herself or her past, and she’s not going to sit back and wait for someone else to fix the problem. She charges in with her charm and her brains, and actually manages to dig up stuff that the cops hadn’t looked into. Now to get the cops to pay attention to that…

Jonah is a good guy–and true to typical romance-novel hero typecasting. He’s gorgeous (of course), stubborn (*rolls eyes*), and does his utmost to keep Sophie safe–including from herself. Which means that he’ll take her information and then tuck her back under lock and key until he has time to get answers. Which is so not how Sophie works.

Of course, that means that their interactions come with lots of sparks, which means this book is not only suspenseful, but fun to read as well. Fans of romantic suspense will love Snapped.

drey’s rating: Excellent!

As with many romantic suspense books (including other books in the Traver series), this book has a woman facing some serious violence, multiple times, starting from an earlier book when she was abducted. At the start of this one, she's present at a university shooting. Sophie has some serious trauma, and she doesn't have the tools she needs to cope with it, and then even more happens. I was so focused on her and her experience, and worried for her, that I felt gross about her romance with Jonah (who was her rescuer in the previous book).

All of Laura Griffin's books are essentially the same. Large, cardboard, alpha man falls in love with stubborn, big breasted beauty who he must protect from a killer.

Whatever. It's not terrible, just not that good either.

It was good all around--good characters, good chemistry between the characters and good plot. The heroine behaved pretty stupidly sometimes but it was acceptable given the things she had gone through. Still, something about the book didn't completely suck me in.

It's been six months since Sophie Barrett's rescue from the clutches of a serial killer and she's finally regained her footing. On her way to sign up for some college course to line her up for a promotion, Sophie finds herself in the middle of a sniper attack on the campus. Just her luck that she's seen more than she knows and Homicide Detective Jonah Macon makes it his personal mission to protect her, even from herself.

The series seems to be getting better with each book, finally finding its mojo, especially with this story. The focus is on forensics and old fashioned investigating after an exceptional and gripping start. More tracers are introduced (who knew there was a thing called questionable documents?) along with the details regarding their areas of speciality. As I lean towards the mystery angles, the forensic analyses fascinated me. However, I loved Sophie, who is smarter than most give her credit and knows how to handle herself. Her relationship with Jonah was a bright spot as they tangled often and she didn't roll over when his alpha nature would rear its head. It's a smart and sexy romance with a suspense filled climax.

This story is my favorite to date and I hope we see both of them in future stories. Sophie is just too refreshing to sideline. 4.5 stars

This was let down by the so called hero Jonah. He dismisses Sophie's theory and treats her like she is an overly dramatic, hysterical woman, doesn't bother to apologise when she is prvoen right, has one of his copy buddies arrest her (but thinks that's ok cause it is for her own good - I hate it when the hero treats the heroine like a stupid little girl who can't think for herself and does stuff for her own good with out ever discussing things with her first). Then he leaves her in jail for ages to "teach her a lesson" because when the arrest triggers a flashback to her abuduction by a freaking serial killer she assualts the cop. And he NEVER apologises. He was a grade A asshole and Sophie deserves so much better.
