This is a really fresh and original story with characters unlike any I’ve read before. For the right reader, this is a nearly perfect book.

I really, really love what Rita Bullwinkel was doing here with the narrative structure, characters, and messaging. I feel like this is definitely a book that may fall on deaf ears or that just won’t be some’s cup of tea, BUT if you’re interested in a kaleidoscopic look at girl-womanhood where past, present, and future exist in tandem over the course of the finals of a young women’s boxing tournament, then perhaps check this out.

What a fascinating concept. Everyone is their own protagonist, so why not tell a story in which everyone is a protagonist and the story is driven by the set beginning, middle, and end that is a tournament? I love it. That said, I could only tell you little snippets about each of the fighters, because I didn't really get enough time with them. But it was still fun and intriguing and I enjoyed it quite a bit.
