Not at all what I was expecting but very interesting. Despite the entire plot existing within a two day boxing tournament, the book treats the sport and the tournament as an afterthought, instead getting into the minds of the people who would be child boxers and what their lives will actually be about. While each girl is a boxer, they’re truly all just children, and it’s interesting to see how the world works through their eyes. I don’t love the writing style but it’s punchy and repetitive in a way that both fits the young characters and the setting of a boxing tournament.

Ermagoddess this book was so perfectly what I needed to read to fall back into devouring a book. Fast paced, well drawn out and frankly fascinating characters, the narrative felt fresh, I loved it. The 2024 accolades were well, well deserved.

Really adventurous in style, form, and tone, and didn’t overstay its welcome. While I don’t think I grew overly attached to these characters, they were definitely objectively interesting. Impeccably written—packs a punch.🥊

Ich bin ehrlich, ich bin verwirrt, was ich von diesem Buch halte. Ich hatte eine wirklich gute Zeit damit, kann aber nicht richtig erklären warum. 
Es ließ sich sehr schnell lesen. Die Sprache ist leicht, aber nicht einfallslos und geprägt von sehr vielen Wiederholungen. Mir ist bewusst, dass das ein bewusst eingesetztes Stilmittel ist, manchmal war es dennoch ein wenig viel. Die Geschichte wird in vielen kurzen, manchmal eher assoziativ zusammenhängenden Absätzen erzählt. Auch das gibt einem das Gefühl, durch das Buch zu fliegen.
Ich fand das Setting interessant, ebenso wie das Konzept, diese Mädchen in einem Kampf gegeneinander vorzustellen, während sie irgendwie jede auf ihre Weise für ihre "Daseinsberechtigung" kämpfen. 

Ich glaube, am Ende fand ich das Ganze einfach irgendwie interessant und mit nichts vergleichbar, was ich bisher gelesen habe. Ob ich verstehe, warum das Buch so viel Aufsehen erlangt hat, weiß ich jedoch nicht.

A good thoughtful and literary read. I became very invested in each of the girls and enjoyed the writing, the complexity of the setting, the fluidity of time, and the foreshadowing employed. It made me appreciate both girlhood and boxing
