The Other Emily

A love story and a happy ending

This story pulled me right along in its wake. Koontz is as lyrical as he is suspenseful. I thought I had the ending figured out, but was surprised.

A 2 seems harsh because there are parts I truly enjoyed and I still liked the book. But overall there was way too much fluff and it reallllyyy dragged for a while.

Koontz has a habit of making everyone in his more recent books perfect--they are perfectly skilled, perfectly knowledgeable. This one is the same. He does far more telling (oh, David just loved Emily) than showing (no flashbacks to see David and Emily). His characters are boring. I couldn't care any less about David or his precious Emily or why he does what he does or what the purpose of Jessup was. Koontz is hit or miss for me, and this one was a tedious miss.

Worst book I’ve ever read. So slow to read (literally took me months and I’m a fast reader), never held my interest, and the way the book ended just made me angry because it was completely out of left field. The genre ended up being alien-like instead of murder mystery. Don’t read this.

I was disappointed with this one. I thought it would be more about the killer and not some weird sci-fi plot stuck on at the end.

Honestly this one was not a favorite of mine. It was hard to want to keep reading it, and it was almost confusing in parts, but it was alright. 3 stars.
