I didn’t like it….from the start it of to the finish. I actually reread the first couple of chapters because when I originally started this book I was reading another one. This book had in my opinion, too many paragraphs that weren’t necessary. The book didn’t get good until halfway through and there were so many twists and turns. This is one of the books I am glad to be done with but one that I will not be reading over again or thinking about. I gave it three stars because it was interesting when it worked and was my kind of book until it took another strange turn. Just not my cup of tea.

A story that started off with the best of Koontz--mysterious, quick exchanges, and plenty of ominous possibilities. The second half to last-third of the book got bogged down with the lesser Koontz--voluminous slowing prose, a plot that gets lost, and a reveal that isn't very well-executed or believable. Emily lost so much momentum in the latter part it's a bit hard to remember what made it so fascinating in the early parts.
Can't recommend, although I'm sure many Koontz fans will find enough to entertain them here.

This is perhaps once of the worst books I’ve ever read. I chose it as a light read in between some other books I’m planning to read and I regret it. The writing is amateurish at best, the plot barely makes sense, the protagonist is confounding. I’m not sure if the reader is supposed to like anyone in this book or root for them whatsoever. The entire plot changes toward the end of the book with very little detail. Also, the author’s political leanings are heavily strewn about throughout the entire book, with jabs at secularism and technology. Not to mention the way women are described and written - they’re barely people. Was this just self-insert fiction for the author to live out some bizarre fantasy of his own?

An enjoyable ride, but the ending seemed anticlimactic and banal.

I gave up not even halfway through this book. I ultimately picked it back up and finished and was disappointed in the end. The suspense was tremendous at times. Other times, I found the story too slow, too many avenues and too many characters to keep up on.
On a positive note, I am glad I read this on my kindle because was able to lookup new words easily. 70 words! That's significantly more than my typical 5-10 words per book.

An imaginative story which keeps up the suspense well, but I found the ending abrupt and out of kilter with the rest of the book.
There are some very wordy paragraphs which add nothing and slow he pace down unnecessarily, and the descriptions of sunsets get increasingly flowery as the story goes on, almost as if the author is playing to some private challenge.
Good, but not my favourite Dean Koontz book.

I found this one harder to get into than I usually do with Koontz.
