Good solid story, tying nicely into previous issues and Star Trek Into Darkness.
Ooooh I enjoyed the plot of this one. I mean, it was real plot! Family drama, Klingons, Romulans, secret organizations . . . this is the Trek I love. But could someone please fire all the artists? This one had so many obviously badly photoshopped pictures of the actors it threw me out of the story multiple times. I miss the days when everything was hand drawn and artists gave a crap. :(
I liked that this was a complete story rather than a collection of mini episodes. It worked well.
Pretty boring this time, but it picked up toward the end.
This is a really well done followup to Into Darkness that improves on the Section 31 conspiracy stuff in every way. The art is mostly fine but some of the pages have that digital photo texture stuff that I hate.

This was the followup to Into Darkness that I was wanting. It furthers the attempted war with the Klingons, the implications of the future tech from the Narada, and delivers a fun, action-packed space adventure with all of our favorite characters. My complaints are , and I am also disappointed how little time is spent developing the new characters introduced. One could argue that, much like the away team members of old, these characters don't need developed, but I want to know more about these redshirts and command-track lieutenants.
Spoiler
the poor handling of Yuki Sulu's arc and the escalating secret arms race around Section 31 and Narada technology that raises its head but seems to have little consequence by the end of the story
The way Johnson takes events from the original timeline and reimagines them in this new timeline is always interesting. Seems Section 31 is much more overt in this timeline.
An exciting tale, but I'm a little concerned about Section 31 as the new boogeyman in the alternate Trek verse. Will someone from 31 pop up every time something bad happens?
Why is AOS so dystopian? It lacks most of what Trek had to offer that nothing else in the world had. The promise of a great (and mostly peaceful) world to live in (unless you go into uncharted territory, of course there’ll be dangers), lots of fun and lots of slow and philosophical adventures. I’m missing it.
This one was just about conspiracy (as in Section 31 and how they are still legal, WHY?!) and war. Nothing about interpersonal relationships, nothing about exploring new worlds, nothing about changing morals to include non-binaries, androids, ... Nothing about what Star Trek does best.
