Only 2 or 3 stars. Sadly there were no surprises for me. Took me a long time for me to get through. Easy to put down.
17th Century Bavaria, a priest dies suddenly after making a discovery in his church. The hangman's daughter and the local medic attempt to solve the mystery of his death, uncovering a Templar treasure. I really enjoyed the descriptions of the winter, with the snow like a thick blanket over the land. This was a lovely read and I would certainly seek out others in the series.
I'm at a point where two things have occurred. First I like the concept of this series, more than the execution, and second, I've read too many fiction books. I need some non fiction.
The writing is ok, the story is ok, the use of modern terms doesn't bother me, though it is noticeable. Overall package is lacking though. The story didn't do anything for me. It was ho hum.

A great sequel to The Hangmans Daughter. It's refreshing to read a historical fiction that doesn't take place in England. I also love how it is based off of Potzch's own family history.
I enjoyed the story, although at times I found the writing choppy and the use of the word "stoned" for drunk very distracting.
Evil monks, the Knights Templar, bands of murderous robbers, this is a real page turner of a mystery.
as a follow up to the first book i enjoyed this! the ending was better this time. i like reading a solid mystery novel. i know nothing about religion and it was interesting to hear about that and how obsessive people get about religion.
I found Oliver Pötzsch's Hangman's Daughter series quite by chance, and was immediately engrossed. The first book was excellent, and Pötzsch didn't disappoint with the second.
