Mary Roach is an American treasure. This was a fascinating, gross, and hilarious listen. I will remember none of the disgusting facts because my memory is trash but I learned so much about the afterlives of human cadavers. I found myself grimacing at moments, chuckling at moments, and even exclaiming “whoa, really?” at moments. This is not at all dry. Roach narrates from a first person perspective and since she is a curious and insightful individual, she makes you feel curious too. It’s truly an enjoyable read and I highly recommend Mary Roach to anyone and everyone.

This book also confirmed my desire to donate my body to medical science when I die. I would also love, like Mary Roach, for my skeleton to make residence in an anatomy classroom so I can teach future students long after I expire.

Fascinating and informative

This book is so well done: pop science at its absolute best. It's historical, hilarious and clearly organized. The jokes are clever and perfectly blithe. The author travels the world and experiences everything she documents in vivid first person reporting. That takes lots of nerve for nauseating cadaver activities. But Mary Roach "is not a squeamish person". The disposal process was demystified and separated from the memorial process. Made sense to me. I am convinced about the need for composting to help reduce GHG emissions . I am wondering if I can choose the type of tree my molecules will nourish? I have always loved a broad-leaf kid-climable Maple tree.

Not always the easiest book to read I felt pretty informed afterwards
