too gruesome for me. and just because something is dark academia does not mean it’s “like the secret history”

edit: wait read this it’s much more articulate than i could hope to be about a book that didn’t do much for me https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2492981005

okay jeg gik ind til denne her bog med de højeste forventninger...how could i not efter six of crows??? Og det er jo det farlige ved at have mega høje forventninger...eeek. Men altså wow what a crazy experience. Over all god bog, spændende og elsker jo dark academia!! Men den var godt nok langsom i starten og det var først fra midten af at jeg virkelig var fanget. Også lidt snørklet og nogle gange var jeg sådan huh?? Men skal ofc læse toeren og det var en solid god bog, i like!

I loved the setting, the characters, and the sense of atmosphere. The plot felt quite disjointed at times, and the magical world felt overly complex and difficult to follow. I feel like with some editing this could’ve been a 5/5 - but unfortunately I found it difficult to stay hooked.

I enjoyed the mix of real-world and magic, and that Alex is…morally grey. Definitely had some dark themes and events, but I felt it could have gone darker with some of it. On to the sequel!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A friend recommended this book & she said “You’ll finish it & think ‘what did I just read?! What WAS that?! but you’ll also think it was good.” She was right.

What WAS that?! Such a strange, bizarre, unique, mind ending fever dream of a fantasy book. So many questions that just beget questions. It was good but also confusing, super complex & intricate, truly a one of a kind read. If you like mind bending & plot twisting murder-y fantasy books, this one is for you.
