This collection of stories by Ned Vizzini were funny, genuine, and heart-felt, which just makes me even sadder that he isn't around anymore to write more stories. The last few stories in the collection I especially liked! I think my favorite was the one about his senior prom.

Also, it's W I L D to me that he published this when he was my age. I'm happy that I've spent this year reading so many of his books!

"Teen Angst? Naaah..." by Ned Vizzini is truly brilliant. His first book, a quasi-autobiography, penned at age 19, is compiled with essays written about his junior high, and high school life. The book is accompanied with footnotes that will leave you in tears from laughter. The stories provide a fresh look at the teenage boy. You can feel the awkwardness of talking to girls, the pressure of getting good grades, the enjoyment of playing Magic: The Gathering. (And I hate that game.) Vizzini is truly hilarious, honest, and witty. The only thing that I didn't enjoy about it was that there wasn't more, as cliche as that may sound. Knowing that there will be no more works by Ned Vizzini makes me cherish this piece even more.

I remember reading this book when I was in 9th or 10th grade and realizing yes, I could be a writer. I loved this book to pieces and use some of the techniques in my own writing now. Highly recommend.

Ned Vizzini has this unassuming air about all of his writing, and it shines through in these essays. Even when he writes about his life after getting publishing contracts, it's still as though he's just bumbling about in life, taking what opportunities come to him. Though written in first person, we are no more inside his head than he wants us to be; he's truly mastered the temporal distance of intimate closeness without letting us truly know anything at all.

Definitely 5 Star rating. It deserves more but that is the highest it will go...
Ned Vizzini is, and always will be be, my favourite author. I have read 'It's Kind of A Funny Story' 3 times so I don't know it took me this long to pic up this book but I' do glad that I did.
Vizzini is an amazing writer who perfectly manages/managed - :( - to write a hilarious novel with an inspirational message interwoven within the pages. I love this book a lot.

Super funny, quick read. It read like a blog. Does this guy have a blog? BRB going to Google. Okay I guess he doesn't. Anyway, just a super funny, realistic memoir written by a high school kid in the late 90s. I connected with it a lot since he was a pretty nerdy high schooler, as was I. Nothing too profound here, but a very funny, enjoyable read.

Here is the NYT column that spawned this book, I guess.
