I read this as the tandem read and it’s a bit hard for me to separate my thoughts between the 2 books but.. holy gods. I don’t even know where to start. So much happens in this book and it really displays the absolute MASTERMIND that is Aelin Galathynius. She is utterly cunning and always 10 steps ahead of everyone. Even when she’s being a hard ass, she’s able to win everyone over.
I love seeing all of these characters bloom and take form. Even as a first time reader of this series, I don’t know how anyone can read it and solely focus on the MCs. The budding relationships (romantic and platonic) in this tandem read are done so flawlessly. I am excited that characters are being reintroduced from Assassin’s Blade and becoming pivotal parts of the story once again!
The ending of this book left me utterly devastated… Are you kidding me?? I didn’t even want to finish the last section of TOD before moving on to KOA but I knew I had to. I just know that what comes next is going to destroy my soul and I can see why everyone always tends to come back to this series.
