This book is so good. It feels like so many little threads came together here. I thought about tandem reading this with Tower of Dawn and after attempting, I decided to do a simplified version (I read EoS from 1-51, then read ToD from 1-58, then swapped back to EoS to finish it, then finishing ToD after). In my personal experience I wish I had just read it in publishing order and not swapped back and forth. Because while there is a sort of cliffhanger at the end of EoS, I feel like I was spoiled on some plot twists that I would have preferred to have read after finishing EoS. But all personal preference. Now to finish ToD!

I read this book for the first time as a tandem read with Tower of Dawn, and I loved reading them that way! Empire of Storms was filled with action and adventure and the cast of character POV’s we follow was really expanded. So many of these characters had really titular moments at this point in the series that it’s hard to choose whose journey is your favorite (but for me personally, I absolutely loved Manon’s).

A very good and exciting book, that’s generally let down a bit by the ending. The characters are very engaging and the book does a good job of strongly connecting the reader to each.

Aelin’s level of planning was probably my main gripe with the body of the story - always either 10 steps ahead or 10 steps behind, sometimes in the space of two chapters. The end was just cruel and miserable however and significantly dulled my excitement for the final book.
