I read a review where someone pointed out that all the people are the same color as the pig - pink. How interesting. I haven't read the Mercy Watson's before this. This story revolves around how much a pig loves butter. The Watson's are going to see a drive in movie where they serve real buttery popcorn - bottomless even. Hijinks ensue. The pig becomes more entertaining than the movie.

This is Kate, so the writing is great. It is a beginning reader for ages 6-8 maybe depending on the kid. It is a lighthearted fun story that a child would be interested in.

That's some Pig.

Cute series by the great Kate DiCamillo. She can really speak to kids with her books & stories - for all age groups.

In the last book of the series all the characters are going to gather in one place, and that's going to be a mess because of Mercy and her love for toasts with a great deal of butter on it!
I am absolutely in LOVE with the Mercy Watson series! I totally love to read them to my little cousin and she giggles all along and between you and me, I giggle with her too. These stories are so fun to read from the clumsy characters to the unexpected plot & the joyful paintings just perfectimo.

Now we're talking a proper Mercy Watson story again. Pandemonium, recurring characters, the gang's all here.

I have enjoyed all of Kate DiCamillo's books and when I saw her name on this book, I was excitedly curious. This seemed to be very different from [b:The Tale of Despereaux|37190|The Tale of Despereaux|Kate DiCamillo|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1412211823l/37190._SX50_.jpg|1508178] and the other books she is well known. I offered to read this to my two youngest children and we sat down and began.

The Mercy Watson series IS very different from her award winning books. The target audience is for a beginner reader rather than one just getting started on solo reads. The proof is in the pudding and my son was engaged the entire duration of the read which is not common and was unexpected as this book was a longer read than he has been used to. He answered all my questions accurately and with enthusiasm and excitement. For this reason, the book is well received.

As a parent reader, I found it rather repetitive. The story itself was also pretty blah. I didn't realize this was a series until after I finished the book so I'm also a little annoyed with myself as it's never cool to start midway through a series.

My kids love them and if my kids are reading then I am pleased.

Mercy Watson goes to the drive-in! Her adventures there include friends, neighbors, and plentiful amounts of popcorn with real butter.

In her author's note, Kate DiCamillo says this will be the last Mercy Watson book (no!). But then she says that she hates writing those words so much that she may have to write another Mercy Watson book just to cheer herself up. I hope so because a new Mercy Watson book always cheers me up, too!
