A bleak story of a little girl living with a monster, told through dark, close images that leave you squinting and half-imagining what they depict, in a beautifully desolate setting of abandoned houses and pale, twisting, threatening forest. I loved it, and am excited to see the secrets and mysteries to unfold in the next books.
