Brilliant.
I highly recommend the audio book edition read by Juliet Stevenson ~ she delivers an entirely astounding, masterful, and riveting performance. A luxurious pleasure to hear.

Mildly amusing at times but mostly kind of tedious. I’m not a big one for this time period but it just felt like the characters never developed and nothing too interesting happened.

Middlemarch has been in my TBR for nearly a decade and at my age I need to stop leaving books there so long. Now that I’ve read it, I have to wonder why it took so long. I mean, yes, 880 pages - but a really great 880 pages. Sure, it’s an older book but filled with dynamic characters- some annoying, some lovable, many of them full of angst. I read somewhere it’s a book about people trying to find meaning in their lives. I would add that they are also trying to figure out how to not be miserable.

Time to read has been scarce, of late, so it was a significant commitment to read such a long book. It has certainly been worth it. Middlemarch is a tale of life in a English country town in a time when rank and propriety were of utmost importance and women were constrained. It's about marriage, expectations, love, wealth, science, politics and the struggle to do right and be happy. There are many wonderfully complex characters and a beautiful setting. I'm going to miss Middlemarch now that I am moving on.

I had heard that Juliet Stevenson’s reading of Middlemarch is the best audiobook performance ever, so I thought it would be a great way of re-reading it, and I’m so glad I did. Her regular voice is soothing, her voices are so well done; it is a brilliant performance. I do love the book itself, clever, grown-up, funny, moving, and thought-provoking. It follows many characters in an English town, and is about the nature of marriage, purpose, reputation, progress, politics, and the desire to do good.

I'm glad that I read once all the through

This book requires patience, but the last quarter of it was wonderful.

Amazing book, very fine narrating.
We find our ways all the way around a lot of different characters in a small society, and find interesting perspectives on just about everyone
