Gillian Flynn is a talented writer, but I want to issue her a challenge: write a peaceful, well-adjusted character, holy hell. This is a dark book that shows the darkest parts of a disturbed woman's life, and while I did NOT guess that ending (my jaw was on the floor), I would read this book with maybe a happy TV show waiting for you. Like as a pallete cleanser. Seriously, this character is depressing. The events of the book are depressing.
This book really spins noire-detective stories on their head. You're following an investigative journalist trying to catch a killer in a small town, and turns out being emotionally scarred and haunted actually affects your professionalism. Crazy. Whose going to tell all the writers on every cop show.
Also, the ending of this book, including the plot twist, came super quick. Like, the last 5 pages of a 254 book had the real answer of what was happening. It was a lot to digest in such a small time.
I know this was Gillian Flynn's first book. With practice, I want to see what else she has under her belt.

Writing a 3, mystery a 4, mess 3.5. However this is the type of mess I do not like. This book could not end fast enough.

Gillian Flynn is such a skilled writer. It saddens me that she's only published 3 books. Definitely doesn't quite reach the greatness of "Gone Girl," but still good.
Sad, disturbing, and uncomfortable, but I appreciate Flynn weaving in hints of good, such as Eileen and Curry' unconditional love for Camille. Not that I've read many particularly dark books, but I think they do suffer if they dont have a glimpse of hope like this.
