What a wonderful sequel! It's a little slower than the first, but also more intruiguing, thanks to the characters, more complex and fascinating then they were in Legend. I absolutely adored their love/hate relationship, but more than that, i loved the building of a world much more compelling than just the Republic. The geopolitical aspect of this book, together with Day and June's relationship it's really what makes it so strong.

I can't decide how I feel about this series. It's interesting enough to keep reading but that could also be because I've already paid for physical copies of the first thee books. So I'm financially invested to at least finish it once.

There's nothing bad about this series but there isn't anything really good that stands out either? I'm not particularly invested in any of the characters or the relationships.

All in all, it's not a bad read, and it will be intrested to see how things come to a head - but also If I hadn't already paid for these books I don't think I'd care to keep reading.

minor spoilers about the romance

this was frustrating in the beginning with some of the characters but i loved the way this ended, it was so sad though :(( reading book 3 asap.

my favorite character is always Day. he’s the least problematic and is still so kind. his love for his family and June is absolutely perfect!!
and i did cry a little bit at the end. he does not deserve this!!

June pissed me off in the beginning, i fully believed she was acting dumb in trusting this dude (who i still don’t trust), and she was also messing with poor Day’s feeling’s.
in the end it turned out she was right…i guess i’m the dumb one now?
she’s decent enough for me not to hate her as a main character…but she can get on my nerves just a little bit sometimes. i hope i come to like her more by the end of the trilogy. (and yes i know there’s a fourth book but i don’t really have the motivation to read it.)

Tess also aggravated me. the thing that makes it worse is that she literally did nothing. she’s completely innocent. but WHY did she have to get up in Day’s face and pester him?? we get it, girl. you’re jealous he loves June and not you. go away please <3
okay, to make myself sound less toxic, it wasn’t exactly Tess i hated. it was the attempted love triangle. i loathe love triangles (except the infernal devices hehe). Tess trying to wedge her way into Day’s romantic life by insulting June was not it.
why do i feel kinda bad for her now though…she got friendzoned so fucking hard lmao.
anyway, i’m begging she just steps aside in the third book and lets Day be with June.

i have a bad feeling about Anden as well…

the plot was lowkey boring at first. i’m usually a fan of scheming and planning, however, this plot line did not grab my interest like the first one did. less secrets were being revealed and there weren’t as many plot twists.

the end was what brought the rating up. i enjoyed the brief action scenes and June and Day’s scenes.

not as gripping as the first book, but i’m still ready to finish out this trilogy!

This book is crazy amazing! I don't know what I would've done if I read this book and had to wait for the next one to be published. Brilliant!

This book was good enough for me to want to read the third. I kind of like that Day bows out. It's dumb and predictable, but I think any idiot who does that is...well, and idiot. Anden seems nice. For the third book, Lu should NOT have Anden betray June so that she ends back up with Day. That is probably what people want, but the bond between Day and June really hasn't been forged convincingly. Make Anden terrific and sexy, and all is good in the Republic hood.
