Probably one of the best things I've read in a while. A methodical, self-aware, personal story of a woman working on herself and working through the betrayal of a bitter divorce and childhood trauma. She's so deeply aware of her weaknesses and tries so hard to climb over them. I love how intimate the narrative is, and it feels like the type of deeply female narrative that is cathartic and triumphant.
slow-paced
I could not put this book down. I loved the characters and was engrossed in the love story.
Echo Wife is the type of book that you think you know what is going on and then you have an "aha moment "and realize you were interpreting things wrong. About midway it goes a little "Gone Girl" and really picks up the pace.
The ending could have been better. I prefer a definitive ending, I don't like guessing what might have happened.

The writing in this sci fi book is so good it helps overcome the leaps of faith required to go with the story. Also, LISTEN TO THIS - the narration is fantastic.

💍“The way I see it, you mostly stop loving a person the same way you stop respecting them. It can happen all at once if something enormous and terrible falls over the two of you. But for the most part, it happens in inches. In a thousand tiny moments of contempt that unravel the image you had of the person you thought you knew.” 💍
🧬synopsis:
Evelyn Caldwell is an award winning research scientist working with clones. She's going through a divorce since her husband cheated on her ... with her own research. But happenstance brings Evelyn and Martine together raising questions on the morality of Evelyn's work.
🧬thoughts:
I purposefully wrote that synopsis vague because I think going into this knowing next to nothing is the way to go. This was so gripping! I wasn't expecting much out of this one, knowing it had a lower average rating on Goodreads but I think that's a real tragedy! This is a really interesting sci-fi suspense book mixed with intriguing literary fiction questions and story telling. I just had to keep turning the page to find out what would happen with Evelyn and Martine. It went into some wild directions that were just plain amusing. I found Evelyn to be an enjoyable character and Sarah Gailey's writing SO thought provoking and almost a... comforting quality? I read her book Just Like Home about 3 years ago on audio and I gave it 4 stars. I think I need to get a physical copy to re-read as I get the feeling it may be a higher rating upon a 2nd read. Upright Women Wanted by Gailey wasn't on my TBR because it's not a book that felt in my wheelhouse but I may need to try it!
