I was really hooked on the premise but the science fiction part of this felt absolutely glossed over and rushed and a little absurdist at times. I also was not a fan of Evelyn but I suppose that was part of the point. I enjoyed it more because I did think it was very unique. Medium on this - a 3.5.
A dark & surreal clone drama. Pleasantly disturbing. The premise alone is enough to linger in your mind, and the author used that premise beautifully. This rocked.

Evelyn’s husband has left her for a kinder, gentler clone of herself. When Martine, her clone, asks for help, Evelyn isn’t sure of what to do. This is quite twisted and interesting. 3.5 stars.
Evelyn Caldwell is devastated after her divorce from her cheating husband. It not just that he was cheating and it took her so long to notice, but he used her research in cloning to secretly create a genetic replica of her that is everything Evelyn is not. Martine is gentle, obedient and most of all the kind of motherly woman Evelyn could never be. Promised herself never to be.
Evelyn would choose to just throw herself back into her research and put another part of her life in the deep pool of forgotten things, but now her cheating husband is dead and both Evelyn and Martine will have to bury the evidence.
This story made my head spin. I adore the way Sarah Gailey use their words - I was glued to the pages all the way through.

It’s all about a clone having a baby and we never explore how the clone has a baby?? A completely healthy baby??? Why didn’t you kill off clone Nathan I totally thought the whole reason they were reviving him was to kill him in front of peers or something. Too many questions left unanswered and not in a cool science fiction way— more of an author didn’t think this through kind of way. Also boring I was really hoping for more suspense. Also the whole point of the clone is to have a baby??? She can’t keep the baby??? At all??? this book does not pass the Bechtel test and I am infuriated by it. Clone implications are so interesting but man they didn’t do anything with it. That was frustrating. No consequences for anyone’s actions other than the initial death of Nathan prime. Not worth the paper better kept as a really cool idea
