This book was so good! Once I started reading I could not put it down.
Maybe 4.5 stars??? I really enjoyed this though, so 5 stars! It's like everything I've been looking for in apocalypse romance. The ending felt rushed but otherwise I thought everything was well written. Maybe the ending will be explained better through the rest of the series.

From what little I know about this author, it appears that excessive trauma-porn might be their niche. They spent so little time making the characters and their relationships believable, and instead hammered away at a handful of poorly thought out plot devices (sexual assault, mistreatment, rape over and over) that little else was left to be desired. To categorize this as romance even is a stretch. An underaged girl falls into lust with a mute prisoner? I’m sure that the shock value of multiple “traumatic events” did it for some readers but for me it was just a boring slog that ended as lamely as it began.
I’m a big fan of horror, and plot lines that involve dark themes like rape/torture do not deter me — that wasn’t why I didn’t like this book. The things that were supposed to be “disturbing” were so heavy handed and poorly executed that it wasn’t even enjoyable in that sense. Good premise in theory but IMO it was just… bad character development, mundane dialogue, and sloppy implementation of plot devices. This book was published in 2017 so I’m hopeful the author has since strayed away from these traps in their newer works of fiction.

Its been a while since I have read a book THIS good! I was hesistant to read this one because I have only read a few books in this genre, but I have recently read a few of Keri Lakes books and really liked them so I picked it up and it turned out to be the best decision.
Often hard to read at times , this book has suspense that will make your hard race, twists and turns and an amazing romance. Read this book!! Its honestly so good. I can't wait to start the next in the series.
