owww this was just what i needed. i absolutely LOVE how old people are the focus and have fleshed out personalities in this book. how they still have their fire, even if its been dormant for a while. the main character was a bit unlikable at first, but by the end i was really rooting for her. a peaceful book that deals with serious themes of loneliness and loss, and makes one rethink the art of gardening.

a good, comforting read, though a little bit slow paced and long winded. 

i relate with janet and her inability to connect with people after all she’s been through. bev is a definite sweetheart who isn’t easily offended, which is just so sweet of her.

Ein Krimi in einer englischen Kleingartensiedlung mit einer ruppigen Protagonistin in ihren 70ern klingt wirklich nach guter, leichter Unterhaltung. Mit dieser Erwartungshaltung ging ich auch an dieses Buch heran. Allerdings war der Großteil der Geschichte leider eher langweilig, auch wenn ich die angesprochenen Themen teilweise sehr interessant fand (besonders die Themen Wechseljahre und Beziehungen im Alter) Ich habe die Beschreibungen der Gärten gerne gelesen habe und auch Janets Liebe für Pflanzen war sehr entzückend.
Die Story selbst wird aber leider erst gegen Ende interessant. Dann aber auch sehr wholesome.

Lovely story writing, great characters and a real sense of England! I would have liked for the author to have delved slightly deeper into Janet’s past but apart from that, loved it!

This an engaging read. 

At first I did not take to Janet Pimm.  She is well enough drawn but she seems bitter and awkward and not fun to read about.       But Helen Paris weaves the back story in carefully and we soon begin to understand why Janet  is as she is. 

She is befriended by Bev, a younger, menopausal and very colourful woman. 

Does Janet change a little too quickly? Maybe. 

Nevertheless the antics of The Invisible Women’s Club entertain us. 

I shall certainly look out for more by this writer.
