I love this book, this might be the 3rd or 4th time of reading it. It inspires me to find out more about history!

Interesting read, though it was a bit draggy at the beginning with all the historical references...

3.5*

The first time I encountered the character of Richard III, I was watching the BBC adaptation of The White Queen. Because of this, I've always been more sympathetic towards him than the average person probably is, and never quite believed Shakespeare's version of a monstrous murderer. This book, despite the fact I deeply disliked Inspector Alan Grant, cemented my belief that Richard was innocent and is an interesting perspective on history itself.

Fascinating how history is changed in writing.

Couldn't finish it. I got bogged down. Too much other stuff I want to read to bother.

I read this in my teens and unlike my recent revisit of Great Expectations, I remembered so much detail. That, combined with the fact that my Ricardian nerdery means I really, really know the story, meant I didn't actually get much new out of reading this. My main observation is the very clever way it shows how propaganda can become such accepted truths that they can never be contradicted. Something I see in my local neighbourhood Facebook group every day!
