This is the only book I've read in what I understand to be the "camino series". Regardless, enjoyable read. Funny, though, at times I could have sworn I was reading a Stephen King book when the travails of the whites going onto the island were detailed!

I listened to this book. By now we are very well acquainted with the inhabitants of Camino Island and the beloved book shop they visit. Bruce Cable learns that his friend, Lovely Jackson, is about to lose her ancestral island. Lovely tells us about the origins of Dark Island and the former slaves who lived there. Whoopi Goldberg narrates this book and she is perfect.
solid 4. read this in two days at work while putting off my other current read which is not holding my attention very well so definitely qualifies as a page turner. this is ultimately minor and didn’t factor into my rating but seriously i found like 2-3 super obvious typos in this book and THIS SH*T MAKES ME SO MAD. like did no one read this book over literally ONCE before publishing?? idk i think it’s slightly appalling that a book that i’m sure sold a million copes from an author who has sold hundreds of millions of copies of his books was released with incredibly obvious typos in it. it just shows such a lack of professionalism and pride in one’s work, as well as respect for the reader. f*cking HIRE ME AND I WILL PROOFREAD UR BOOKS JOHN GRISHAM!! ALSO ELIN HILDERBRAND THIS GOES FOR U 2! UGHHH but ok end of rant. this was a compelling story with some idiosyncratic characters and good legal drama, a grisham classic if you will. i’m 99% sure ive read the other two books in this series and i like the characters. nothing special or life changing but interesting subject material and im personally a sucker for legal thrillers! i also liked the southern seaside setting, it was fun to read.
medium-paced
Typical page-turning story telling by Grisham. Tjis tmely story was a great way to kick off my vacation reading.
