Another beautiful translation by Wilson. The modernity of the language allows the poem to crash in quick succession like Poseidon's rage and waves, and Odysseus' own ability to think on his feet. Iambic pentameter was a great choice to maintain the musicality of the text.
Just the perfect holiday read, seriously, a tale of adventure, excitement and peril. Couple that with Wilson's wonderful translation that means the text reads like something that is 3 rather than 3000 years old, whilst still being poetic and full of strangeness. A properly wonderful thing to read. Having read works like Ulysses and Circe that used it as a starting point it was brilliant to read the original and get more out of those other texts
I will now be dropping into every conversation that I have in fact read the Odyssey.

➥ The Odyssey, the book that is 300 pages long but feels 3,000 pages long?
➥ The Odyssey, the book that all they do is rub themselves with olive oil?
➥ The Odyssey, the book that uses 5,000 words to say something that could be said in 30?
Oh yes, these are all ways that I would describe this book and yet I totally get why it has retained it's classic status. It is written in a way that books just aren't written anymore and although it is beautiful it is also really F-ing boring....

If there's one thing to learn from this, it's that sometimes you can shag your way out of your problems.

Vous pensez que quand Matt Damon a reçu le script de Nolan pour le rôle d’Ulysse, il a été surpris de voir que 90% de son script se résumait à: « Être triste et misérable » ?
