This book just wasn’t doing it for me. Nothing felt like a mystery except for the beginning. Everything felt obvious and there wasn’t a single reveal that felt exciting or shocking. I felt like there wasn’t enough backstory on the cult and more could’ve been done there to make it a little more interesting.

I started the Netflix adaptation when I was 50% of the way through. Some details are different but otherwise the core of the story is the same. Slaughter also said she binged the show and was happy with how it came out so…I guess I’ll continue it. Not my fave. I feel like Andy is so much more of a dumb bitch in the show than the book. Like honey, you’re 30. Get it together.

I don’t even know what I just read. Too many POVs and unnecessary plots. 1.5 ⭐️ for getting through 457 pages of bs.

Not one of Karin Slaughter’s best stories. I tried to get through it but it is so unbelievable in some parts, I just gave up. I made it 3/4 of the way but there are so many books to read why waste my time. On to the next one.....

This was my first Karin Slaughter - I really enjoyed it and will definitely try others. Interesting premise. The first 100 pages were a bit slow...but it really picked up and I could not put it down for the last 150 pages.

Okay audiobook

This was my first Karin Slaughter, an author I've always been a little scared to read based on what other people said about her books. I thought this would be too graphic for me, but it wasn't that bad, and I ended up enjoying it more than I thought.

However, I think this is more of a 3.5 than a full four, just because of some things that I didn't like. The writing style was a bit too dry for me, and I didn't like the amount of detail it had at some points (this was more evident in Andy's POV). It made the chapters drag, especially in the beginning of the story. Also, this was a book that had a story that was clearly stronger than the other, which made the long chapters even worse. I didn't like Andy's perspective. I didn't care about her at all, and it took so long for both stories to merge, when I was trying to speed read her chapters to get back to the part of the story I cared about, it just wasn't fun sometimes.

That being said, I really enjoyed the plot that happened in the past. I wasn't expecting this to be so much about music, but that's always a plus for me. It was a little far fetched at some points, but I honestly didn't really mind. This was so much different than other thrillers I've read, it felt really original, even if it sounded a little wacky.

Overall, it was good. I think I'm gonna pick up more from Slaughter in the future.

The back story seemed to drag on with unimportant details, and could have been a short chapter instead of interrupting the modern story. It wasn’t one of Karin Slaughter’s better works.

For some reasons, I could not finish the book. It has a good start, but I just cannot keep myself focused.
