I really enjoyed the plot line of this book and the way it switched back and forth between time periods. It was a little confusing at first but once I got further it was easier to understand. The are a few things I did not like about this book - the chapters were super long, but that’s just a personal preference. I also wasn’t the biggest fan of the political aspect, but it was a key element in the story. And I found myself getting very frustrated with the main character throughout the book. But overall I thought this book was really well written and I appreciated how the author wrapped everything up in the end. This was a unique mystery/thriller adventure novel.

I am a fan of K. Slaughter but this book is a NO. That damn Andy is so freaking annoying. I was done at ch. 3 I couldn't do it anymore

Not a fan! I had to force myself to get through this book, and there were very little times where I had actually enjoyed what I was reading. I could not wait for it to be over just so I could be done with it. While this book might be excellent towards some, I did not have that reaction. I kept waiting for it to get better, and it seems like it never did. Not sure if I even want to bother watching the Netflix show of this either. I found Andy to be so annoying, that's the only way I could explain it. Not for me, but I guess it could be for you.

This started out as such a fast paced novel. I’ve read two books now by this author and I love that things tend to be fast paced. The story never felt like it was dragging along and I nearly got whiplash from all the twists and turns. My jaw literally dropped a few times because I was shocked by what had happened. To me, it fizzled out a bit in the second half. Solid 3 star novel; it did keep me entertained *most* of the time.

This one started out really slow. I struggled to get into it. Once I did though, I was IN! I loved Laura. She was a force to be reckoned with. Andy definitely made some stupid decisions during her travels, but that’s what kept the story interesting. Although I wasn’t shocked in the big “twists”, I did think Mike was a bad guy and was a bit surprised when Paula was the one shooting bc up the farm house. I can’t wait to read Girl, Forgotten.

DNF @ page 189 (37%). The first chapters (August 20, 2018) grabbed my attention (active shooter and a mother with a mysterious/hidden past) but then it became predictable and monotonous, to the point where I was just skimming.

This book delves into a mother daughter relationship that has so many lies holding it together that it’s hard to keep them straight. Andrea’s mother Laura has so many secrets that as Andrea starts to unravel them, she has a hard time comprehending anything that her mother has done. Andrea seems to be coasting through an unhappy life with no real purpose until she gets pulled into her mother’s past life drama. It’s good to see her grow as a character when the chips are down. As usual, Karin Slaughter pulls out all the stops and keeps you wondering up until the very last page.

Better than expected.
