Not my favorite book, I didn’t enjoy the POV of this book. I would have rather it been in first person. All the characters were annoying and I found myself not rooting for anyone. There was also too many characters to keep up with. I often times got confused on who was who. A lot of the time I caught myself eye rolling at the storyline. I will say the wife catching Harper and Reed was a great chapter ender. I did enjoy Tabitha finally being free and able to think of herself.
Listened on audiobook, for what it's worth. This book was an enjoyable read. It was like a soap opera in book form. Though it was pretty fluffy and predictable, I still liked it and found myself itching to find out what happened next.
Three stars. The book was entertaining but I have enjoyed other books by this author more.
Great getaway to the beach. Should have saved for a beach trip. Loved the setting.
This book gets better as it goes on. At first I started thinking to myself that I like pretty much every Elin Hildebrand book I’ve read but do they all end up having the same general outline and formula? So then that kind of turned me off for a bit, but then I just got back into the “beach read” mindset and liked the book again.
All of her books are set on Nantucket, but this one is split with time spent on Martha’s Vineyard. The Identicals are twins Harper of the Vineyard and Tabitha of Nantucket. Also on Nantucket is Eleanor, their mother, and Ainsley, Tabitha’s 16 year old daughter. Billy, the twins’ dad, lives on the Vineyard but dies shortly into the story.
It’s part Parent Trap, part soap opera. When their parents divorced, Harper lived with their dad on the Vineyard and Tabitha with their mom on Nantucket. This divide made them into who they are as adults. There are other extenuating circumstances that have caused a rift between the twins and they basically haven’t spoken in 14 years.
There are lots of romances, break ups, affairs, etc. going on with all the ladies. The book bounces around from the points of view of Harper, Tabitha, and Ainsley. I feel like I connect the most with Harper even though I don’t think we’re that much alike but Tabitha seemed way too uppity, at least until she goes to the Vineyard, and Ainsley’s teenage life is very different than mine was.
It’s also very much a story about place. The similarities and differences between the 2 islands. I’ve never been to the Vineyard and only been to Nantucket a couple times so I don’t know much personally about either one but I do think it would be nice to spend some time on both to compare for myself.

idk if I just wasn't into it enough or what but I could not stay entertained during this at all. idk who half the people were or what was going on. maybe I wasn't paying close enough attention?
