i’ve wanted to read this for what feels like forever. the audiobook narration was exquisite as well as the lives of this larger than life couple. this is the most compelling nonfiction book i’ve read this year. it was so hard to put down and i just kept wanting to listen to it. the sense of direction is so strong in this book.
as a bonus, it was super cool to know that elizabeth taylor was part of the inspiration for evelyn hugo and to see the similarities between the two.
my only qualm was that the timelines felt like they jumped around a tad and sometimes it was hard to keep events straight. i wish it had been told in a more linear fashion.
this book has made me want to watch all of elizabeth taylor and richard burton’s movies. so that’s probably what i’ll be doing for the foreseeable future.

This was a very interesting incite to the romance of the century and the telling of old Hollywood. This could have been about 2 chapters shorter, but I enjoyed nonetheless

Interesting and sad but dense and leisurely paced. I would probably recommend only if you are fans of these two specifically; love You Must Remember This; or have a hankering for vintage gossip.
a bit too hagiographic of Taylor but an interesting read.
I have no idea how this book made it onto my list or why I even picked it up, but oh man I'm glad I did. What a fascinating pair. First of all, it's absolutely shocking that Elizabeth Taylor made it to old age. She was very fragile health wise and her way of living certainly was not conducive to a long life. The description of how much these two drank in a day made my liver ache, it was unbelievable! It was also heartbreaking to see two people who love each other like crazy but just become toxic for each other. It's also funny to look back at them in film, e.g. clips of Cleopatra...it's crazy by todays standards that these two were the hottest thing at the time.
Really long but super interesting! I still don't know how I feel about unauthorised biographies but I really liked this and made me very interested in the culture of the time. Taylor Swift always gives great recs!

This was a 4.5 but the epilogue got me so I’m bumping it up. Incredible book of a disastrous love.
