I really loved this book, but I’m sad that it wasn’t from Jekyll/Hyde’s perspective because I think it would have been a hair more interesting, if I’m being honest. But other than that, solid, quick read!! It’s making me rethink what pop culture has made this story out to be because the doctor is Jekyll just as much as he is Hyde, but people entirely separate the two and I fear that that’s kind of missing the point.
if you’re ever looking for an easy-to-follow classic read, this is the one. not only is it a humble one-hundred pages, it actually captivates you and drags you into the atmospheric dreary streets of london to follow along a murder mysetery & obviously, the strange case of dr. jekyll and mr. hyde.

This book was a nice little read. I think because I have studied the context as well for education purposes, it makes a lot of the reputation and cave-man/animalistic references and descriptions a lot more impactful. When considering the effect this would have had on a Victorian audience, the story and the message becomes a lot more powerful. I liked Stevenson's writing, even though at parts there were a lot of dated words and phrases that made me struggle to keep reading. The descriptions of Mr Hyde create an intense, grotesque image in your head and it truly contrasts with Dr Jekyll and the innocence of the victims of his anger.

Hoped to enjoy it more upon a reread than I did at school - mission accomplished. More vivid, fervent passages on the duality of man than I remember.
Interestingly, I always thought Jekyll had a multiple personality disorder, not that he literally and physically turned into another person!
