Liked the message and the characters, but plot was too slow and ending was kind of clumsy. The first book was better, in my opinion. Still, Roth done a good job in world building and charactar building.

Not a bad book, I enjoyed the way it rapped up.
As usual I think the first book of this duology was more enjoyable, I'm glad it wasn't stretched into a trilogy.

I enjoyed the addition of Ceci's voice to the story as well as getting an Elijah chapter every part though I wish we got to learn more about Elijah/that he was a bigger part of this book.
Learning about the current gifts further and getting to explore new planets and cultures was a blast, the world building of this book is really well done.

I didn't like the reintroduction of a once dead character, I think it made the book feel a little convoluted, didn't add much, actively took away from other plots.
I feel like a lot of plots and characters in this book just drop off without being wrapped up or given their time to shine.
Elijah being a prime example of this.

Overall it was a great sequel. I enjoyed the varying perspectives and all the twists and turns. Cisi's side kind of annoyed me but it did give good insight to that side of the story. I would also like to point out that I thought they were swapped based on the cliff hanger from Carve the Mark. I dont know if I'm just perceptive or if it was just obvious. The fact that their fates were already met made for a dynamic turning point. Their personal motivations were able to slowly shift as they realized they could do things just because they wanted to. I also like that the ending wasn't a super quick fix. The world keeps spinning, with a new conflict on the horizon, but Cyra and Akos still get their relatively happy ending.

This well-written tale continues the story of Cyra Noavek, Akos Kereseth and other characters first introduced in the novel, Carve the Mark. Cyra and Akos' love is as ill-fated as Romeo and Juliet as they struggle against warring planets, intrigue, murderous plots and a desire to somehow avoid the destinies predicted at their births by the oracles. Add in the current gifts each character possesses, which can be helpful or harmful, a great, unexpected plot twist and an all-out battle against the tyrannical Lazmet Noavek, with the fate of entire planets in the balance, and readers will find that author Veronica Roth has supplied all the elements for an excellent adventure story. -Louisa A.

A really solid conclusion! And I did NOT see that big twist coming! Overall I really enjoyed this duology: the pacing, the plot, and the characters. I have no major complaints and I'll likely be revisiting this series in the future. This book also gets 5/5 for representation of many different types of people (including people of different colors, genders, sexualities, and more) and I appreciated that because it's 2018 and about damn time.

Loved this book! Cyra and Akos are amazing and I wish their story could continue. Things wrapped up so nicely I think this duet is over. Recommended for everyone who loves fantasy, scifi and exploring new worlds!

The Fates Divide was better than Carve the Mark. Things were frustrating at times with the main love interest but I'm so glad it ended much more happily than the Divergent trilogy.

I enjoyed this one far more than the first. It was easier to get into. The only thing that confused me was why Roth used first person for female characters and third person for male characters? I also love the little twist that Akos and Cyra were swapped just after birth.
