The Fates Divide was better than Carve the Mark. Things were frustrating at times with the main love interest but I'm so glad it ended much more happily than the Divergent trilogy.
I enjoyed this one far more than the first. It was easier to get into. The only thing that confused me was why Roth used first person for female characters and third person for male characters? I also love the little twist that Akos and Cyra were swapped just after birth.

The Fates Devide is the second book in the Carve the Mark douology. This book follows Cyra Noavek and Akos Kereseth, as well as both of Akos’ siblings. This book follows Cyra as she tries to decide what is best for herself and her nation of Shotet.
Just like Carve the Mark, this book started out slow and quickly peaked my interest. There were several twists and turns that happened during the book that I didn’t see coming. I love that Roth included an LGBTQ+ love story to this book!
Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars
Moderate: Confinement, Violence, Blood, Death of parent, Injury/Injury detail
Minor: Torture, War
I recommend the Audiobook! Great sci-fi and world building.
A good conclusion to this duology. I did enjoy the first one more than this one - I really loved the first half, but the second half just kind of fell flat for me. I found that some of the plot points just weren't very flushed out and some of the characters took a turn that I didn't enjoy as much. Cyra was definitely my favorite character in this book, with Akos being a close second. The world was really interesting, and it was great getting to see other worlds in the universe.
This was an amazing book, I love Veronica Roth. I feel like this book is doing a lot of what other fantasy novels with a female heroine are trying to do right now. I just really enjoyed it, and the themes, and the juxtaposition that you can analyze if you want, but surface level is just as enjoyable. That's how you know it's a good book, that no matter what type of a reader you are, it's fun, sad, heartbreaking, enjoyable. You can feel that on the top and deep within.
This book was definitely not as good as the first but the twist in Cyra and Akos’s fates totally shocked me and made the book seemingly more interesting. Overall good, I’m glad it ended with the two books.

I found that this book was a bit dull, and I'm not sure if it's because it was or if it's because I waited too long to read it after the first book. The action that I was expecting wasn't really here, and I feel like the plot jumped around a lot with no real resolution to any part of it. I did like getting perspectives from two other characters, but it felt as though nothing really happened in the book at all.
