I enjoyed The Last Garden in England much more than I expected I would.  Through the course of the book we follow five women who are all connected to Highbury House over different generations.  I was expecting this book to fall into the Kate Quinn style of book where we move backwards and forwards in time and something terrible happens to everyone and no one is happy.  Though the book did get a bit predictable with something bad happening at every major social event, in the end the book was not sad and something terrible didn't happen to everyone.  I found the women in this book to be very well written and I particularly enjoyed Emma who's story takes place in 2021.  Overall I would recommend this book to people and I would read another book by Julia Kelly.

A well-written, multi-generational story about a series of women, the men and people they choose to love, and the one garden that connects them all. I found it pleasant to read without being overly simplistic and enjoyed the unexpected turns along the way. A good read for wintertime when it’s freezing outside but your hands are eager to get back into the soil: a little bit of Spring come early.

This is a book I can see myself rereading every year or two. It’s a beautiful travel through several women’s lives, who all have the same garden in common, throughout the ages.

Each woman goes through a breakthrough, a revelation, a coming-into-her-own, and I cheered for them each time.

It was heartbreaking in parts. There were a few scenes where the weight of them came though the pages and I felt it in my heart. That’s a skill that isn’t super common, in my humble opinion, and very appreciated.

I love stories that feature gardens as themes and The Last Garden in England is so good. Strong characters, compassionate characters, unexpected moments, progressive men and women, and growth for the main characters.

I received a copy through NetGalley. These thoughts are my unbiased thoughts. I am looking forward to adding a hard copy to my collection and already know several people who will love to receive this book as a gift.

Very fast-paced, gripping story. Had a slightly corny turn at the end with people's names poetically being connected, but otherwise was a great historical dive into three generations of women

I might have given this book a 4 if I'd read the print version rather than listened to the audio edition. I didn't care for several of the voice artists' performances. Beyond that issue, though, I don't understand why the author chose to set the modern storyline in 2021 yet told the story as if it weren't taking place in the midst of a global pandemic.

A good but not amazing historical read.  We learn about the lives of multiple women over the past 120 years or so as they are linked to a garden in a country house.

The garden is being designed and constructed at the start of the 20th century; it's being enjoyed by recuperating soldiers during WWII; it's being revived and brought back to life in the present day.

The characters are easy to relate to, though they don't set the world on fire they are likeable enough and this is a well-researched easy read
