I am pretty late to reading Jill Shalvis books, and usually end up starting a series half way through! So it is great to finally start a series right as it begins.
I love a good second chance romance, and if you haven't guess from the title, this is exactly what we get here.
When Lily up and left Cedar Ridge without a word a decade ago, it ripped Aidan's heart out. And now she is back - how will they handle things.
I loved the spark between our lovelies. There is a fine line between love and hate, and this pair are toeing that line, but who will be the one to cross it?
Oh Aidan ♥ what is not to love about Aidan Kincaid? Like all of Ms Shalvis' books, she has given us a sweet, loving, alpha hero. Uber protective of "his woman" - whether she knows she is is woman or not.
Plus, hello - firefighter! Hose me down!
It took me a while to warm up to Lily. Not sure what it was, but once I warmed up to her I adored her. I could understand her thoughts about Cedar Ridge, but I wanted to shake some sense into her, tell her to pull her head out of her butt and see what is right in front of her.
There is a great openness between Aidan and the rest of his family. There is this amazing love for each other, no matter what. Doesn't stop the hijinx and jokes on each other *cough cough pink undies cough cough*. You can only fight with people you love the way they do and not have it come between them.
The relationship between our lovelies felt organic. There was so ,much history between them that they were just drawn to each other.
So, will Lily give in and let Aidan into her heart - again? Or will the past still come between them?
Nope, for that you are going to have to read for yourself.
I really enjoyed this first installment in the Cedar Ridge series, and cannot wait to read more about the Kincaid family and their adventures!

Lily Danville had left Cedar Ridge, Colorado after she lost her sister and father planning never to return. After her job, boyfriend, and life implodes she is back working for her best friend in his salon until she gets back on her feet. Seeing Aidan Kincaid again though was not on the plan, she knows she could have lost her heart to him but something kept her from ever exploring it.
Aidan can't believe Lily is back and he definitely wants to spend time with her, Lily though is pushing him away at every turn. He gets that she is scared but he is determined to break through the wall she is determined to keep in place.
Filled with humor, chemistry, and the feeling of being part of the Kindcaid family this is a terrific story. I loved the warmth you feel with all the characters, each one is so different and you want more. You want to leap to the next book and see what happens next. Lily is a fascinating character, she is a shell of her former self though and Aidan brings the best out of her. Aidan is a bit of a player and struggles with his feelings with Lily, he knows he wants her but how much is what worries him. Highly entertaining.

Lily Danville left Cedar Ridge 15 years ago after a terrible tragedy. Now she's back home after an incident that blacklisted her, preventing her from getting work elsewhere. Aidan Kincaid, a firefighter and Search & Rescue volunteer, never forgot his first love and now that she's back...well, who knows.
I wanted to love this book! Aidan is beyond wonderful, with all of his perfections and flaws, and his innate nature to rescue people. The Kincaid family is extraordinary, messy, funny and fiercely protective of one another. I was captivated by that whole family.
The romance is what fell completely flat for me. Lily was a frustrating enigma who I tried hard to connect with but couldn't. Her reasoning for keeping Aidan at bay felt hollow, unrealistic and irritating. I tried but couldn't even like her that much.
While the romance failed (for me), everything else about the story was delightful. The Kincaid family dynamics were often hilarious, always entertaining. The next book, which is previewed in this one, has already hooked me. The romance, at least from the first chapter, seems much more promising. 3.5 stars

I really enjoyed this - even if I was reading it out of season (it's definitely autum here now!). It's been on my to-read pile for a while, but for much of it in a box, so when it reemerged I grabbed it because I've enjoyed quite a few Jill Shalvis books recently.
This is a firefighter/search and rescue story, with the heroine a cosmetologist who is returning to her home town (not really through choice) after years away after a tragedy. There she finds her childhood crush, who still leaves her as tongue tied as he ever did. Together they work out some issues as they look for a happy ending.
This is the first in the series and I'll definitely be looking out for the others.

I've read and reviewed several Jill Shalvis books lately, and I do admit I enjoy them! Sure, they all follow a similar, predictable layout of a typical romance novel, but....I love it. It just doesn't matter that it's predictable because it's so comforting. You always know what to expect with a Shalvis novel--generally in the form of a hot man like Aidan Kincaid in this book. Firefighter? Search and rescue? SWOON! You just can't go wrong with a main character like that! I really liked Lily as a character as well. She was likeable and easy to root for.
I'm excited that this is the first in a new series (Cedar Ridge series, set in Cedar Ridge, CO). In addition, I definitely fell in love with the Kincaid family--especially the Mom. Looking forward to future books in this series and hearing stories of the other family members!
This is the perfect summer read--it's a quick read with lots of romance that is so relaxing and fun to read. If you're looking for this type of book, Second Chance Summer won't disappoint!

I didn’t feel a connection with the main characters. I wasn’t emotionally invested with either one of them
Did not finish, stopped 40% through. It was so boring! I felt lukewarm about all of the characters. Almost everyone was acting like idiots. I just didn't have the will power to continue.
